The 8th Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS-2016) took place in Da Nang, Vietnam. ACIIDS 2016 was co-organized by Bina Nusantara University from Jakarta (Binus University) and Wroclaw University of Technology in cooperation with IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Computational Collective Intelligence, Bina Nusantara University from Jakarta, Ton Duc Thang University and Quang Binh University from Vietnam. This year the conference was organized under the honorary patronage of Dr. Jaroslaw Gowin, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and Minister of Science and Higher Education.
General Chair of the conference was Professor Ngoc Thanh Nguyen. Six representatives of our Department: Prof. Ngoc Thanh Nguyen, Dr. Bogdan Trawiński, Dr Kazimierz Choroś, Dr. Adrianna Kozierkiewicz-Hetmańska, Dr. Dariusz Król and Dr. Andrzej Siemiński took part in the conference. Researchers from our Department were engaged in the organization of ACIIDS 2016.
Submissions came from 36 countries from all over the world. Each paper was peer reviewed by at least two members of the International Program Committee consisting of above 250 scientists from 64 countries. Only 153 papers with the highest quality were selected for oral presentation and publication in the two volumes of Springer’s LNCS/LNAI series (Vol. 9621 and 9622). Moreover, 40 additional papers were presented during poster sessions and were published in the form of chapters of the scientific monograph issued in Studies in Computational Intelligence (vol. 642) by Springer Verlag.
Keynote speeches were given by Prof. Tzung-Pei Hong from National University of Kaohsiung (Taiwan), Prof. Saeid Nahavandi from Deakin University (Australia), Prof. Jun Wang from City University of Hong Kongand Piotr Wierzchoń from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland).
Dr. Bogdan Trawiński chaired the special session on Multiple Model Approach to Machine Learning (MMAML 2016) with 9 papers accepted and orally presented. The MMAML 2016 Special Session was co-organized by three colleagues Dr. Edwin Lughofer (Austria), Dr. Tomasz Kajdanowicz (Poland), and Dr. Bogdan Trawiński (Poland).
