The 5th Asian Conference on Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS-2013) took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. ACIIDS 2013 was co-organized by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Malaysia) and Wrocław University of Technology (Poland) in cooperation with Nguyen Tat Thanh University (Vietnam). General Chair of the conference was Professor Ngoc Thanh Nguyen. Five representatives of our Division: Prof. Ngoc Thanh Nguyen, Dr. Adrianna Kozierkiewicz-Hetmańska, Dr. Bogdan Trawiński, Mr. Marcin Maleszka, and Ms. Bernadetta Mianowska took part in the conference.
Submissions came from 20 countries from all over the world. The conference papers were divided into three tracks: Intelligent Information Systems, Intelligent Database Systems, and Tools and Applications. Each paper was peer reviewed by at least two members of the International Program Committee and International Reviewer Board papers consisting of 129 members. Only 108 papers with the highest quality were selected for oral presentation and publication in the two volumes of Springer’s LNCS/LNAI series (Vol. 7802, 7803).
Keynote speeches were given by Prof. Dr. Sigeru Omatu from Osaka Institute of Technology (Japan), Prof. Dr. Hoang Pham from the State University of New Jersey (USA), Prof. Dr. Naomi Salim from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Malaysia), and Associate Prof. Dr. Mong-Fong Horng from Kaohsiung University (Taiwan).
Dr. Bogdan Trawiński chaired the special session on Multiple Model Approach to Machine Learning (MMAML 2013) with 7 papers accepted and orally presented. The MMAML 2013 Special Session was co-organized by three colleagues Dr. Edwin Lughofer (Austria), Prof. Przemysław Kazienko (Poland), and Dr. Bogdan Trawiński (Poland).
The Special Session on Intelligent Recommender Systems (IRS), which gathered much of attention from the ACIIDS 2013 participants, was also organized by our Division employees Dr. Adrianna Kozierkiewicz-Hetmańska and Prof. Ngoc Thanh Nguyen.
